Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
We are an effective means of reaching hurting people in countries around the world with food, medicine, and other assistance. Our emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. As we offer food, water, and temporary shelter, we meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives. Our community development and vocational programs in impoverished villages and neighborhoods help people break the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better tomorrow. We impact the lives of vulnerable children through educational, feeding, clothing, and shelter programs that let them know they are not forgotten. We provide first-class treatment in the Name of the Great Physician through our medical projects, as well as supplying mission hospitals with much needed equipment and suppliesDuties include cleaning out mud and ruined materials; removing fallen trees and debris; and repairing damaged roofs and covering them with weatherproof plastic. We are looking for volunteer teams of up to 15 people, minimum age 16, who are willing to serve for three days or more.Your team should be organized before you contact us. You will need to provide the number of team members, dates available, and other information when you contact us.Your team is responsible for providing your own transportation to and from the disaster relief site.Your sleeping quarters and meals will be provided. You will need to bring your own cot or air mattress, sheets, towels, and personal hygiene items.Construction skills are very useful. Supplying your own tools, such as chainsaws, is helpful, but not mandatory.Teams should not bring additional supplies--food, water, clothing, etc.--for the victims, as we are not set up to distribute relief supplies. We absolutely need you and your team. Samaritan's Purse will be working in the Gulf Coast region for a long time, helping families rebuild and recover, and we need thousands more volunteers. Our Hurricane Katrina teams working in Mississippi and Louisiana will require additional help in 2006. We need volunteers to help us at all of our locations for many months to come. A ministry of Samaritan's Purse, World Medical Mission works in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Volunteers practice mainly in evangelical mission hospitals. They also work in clinics and sometimes assist in disaster relief. Terms of service in Africa and Asia usually require a minimum commitment of one month.
